Besides photography, I also love telling stories from my journeys on stage. I speak about long-distance hiking, life on trail and the mountains — from the Beskydy to the Pacific Crest Trail.

Up and down the Pacific Crest Trail
The plan was simple: set out alone from Mexico and hike the Pacific Crest Trail all the way to Canada. I took the preparation seriously, studied everything I could, and then spent six months getting practical lessons in the desert, high mountains, forests and interpersonal relationships.
Along the way, I ran into some challenges: pitching a trekking-pole tent, permanently wet sleeping bag, broken heart, sprained ankle and a fairly unpleasant realization that time moves faster than I do. Fortunately, there was also an enormous amount of beautiful places, laughter, friendships and people who taught me things I could have never learned off the internet back home.
During the presentation, I tell the story just as openly as I experienced it. People who have seen the talk say that at times, they felt like they were hiking those 3200 kilometres with me.
Up and down the Pacific Crest Trail is an honest story of how the fairly simple plan of “I'm hiking to Canada” turned into six months that changed a lot more than just my calves. And about how you can grow into things that once seemed too big for you.
About the speaker
Barbora Strihová is a mountain portrait photographer, traveller and public speaker from the Beskydy mountains in Czech Republic.
She loves long-distance hiking, deep conversations and ideas that involve a backpack, a plane ticket or both. The mountains are also where she loves photographing people most, because that's where they seem most like themselves.
